Painting at Bothell Landing with Karen Barkley, John Laney and Bin Li. It was a day of joy and frustration. The weather was exceptionally beautiful. The clarity of the light was a challenge. There was very little moisture in the air, consequently very little atmospheric perspective. One had to rely on subtle shifts in tertiary shadow colors, and the stacking of receding objects, to create depth. It was very easy to make the shadows too dark, or alternately too light. Where nature leads, we must humbly follow.
